Josh McDermott

Josh McDermott enters his first season at Middle Tennessee, starting his new role as Assistant Coach. Coach Josh was previously a Graduate assistant and Interim head coach at Belmont University. Josh played college tennis at Ferris State University.
Coach Josh has many years of experience coaching people of different ages and levels. In addition to coaching at the collegiate level, Josh has run many junior and adult clinics.

McDermott is a native of Queenstown, New Zealand, and has been a graduate assistant coach with the Belmont men's tennis program for the previous two seasons. He also served as an interim head coach for a portion of the spring 2024 season.  

In 2024, McDermott helped the Bruins win their second consecutive Horizon League regular season title. During the 2023 season, he helped lead Belmont to a 21-6 record and the program's first-ever national ranking at 74. The Bruins won the Horizon League regular season title and Horizon League Conference Championship, to go with an NCAA Tournament berth.  

During his tenure at Belmont, five players received First Team All-Conference selections, two received Second Team All-Conference, and had a doubles pairing, which received a national ranking of 72. 

Prior to his coaching career, McDermott played three seasons at Ferris State University. He graduated in 2022 with a degree in Professional Tennis Management with a minor in international business, earning cum laude honors. He was also awarded GLIAC All-Conference honors two years in a row.
